Study Summary

This trial will study the effects of elastic band training with and without mental effort on strength & neuromuscular function in healthy older women. 3 groups will be compared to determine changes in strength, neuromuscular function, and body composition.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for healthy older females aged 65-79, with a BMI of 25-33 kg/m². They must be able to get up from a chair without help, not use walking aids, have internet and camera-equipped device access at home, and haven't exercised regularly in the past three years.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if elastic band training combined with maximal mental effort boosts strength and neuromuscular function more than just elastic band training or no intervention (control group). Participants will be randomly placed into one of these three groups.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves physical exercise and mental effort rather than medication, side effects may include muscle soreness or fatigue due to the training regimen.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Change in bicep curl strength as measured by load lifted in pounds
Secondary outcome measures
Change from baseline in isokinetic muscle activation at 6 weeks
Change in agonist muscle activation as measured by electromyography amplitude
Change in antagonist co-activation as measured by electromyography amplitude
+18 more
Other outcome measures
Change in calorie consumption as measured by kilocalories determined by dietary recall
Change in exercising heart rate
Change in physical activity as measured by daily step count via Garmin Venu SQ smartwatch
+1 more

Active Control
Group I: Elastic Band Training with Maximal Mental EffortExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
This group will perform moderate intensity, whole-body elastic band training with maximal mental effort during muscle contraction.
Group II: Elastic Band TrainingExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
This group will perform moderate intensity, whole-body elastic band training.
Group III: ControlActive Control1 Intervention
This group will not perform any training and maintain their regular level of physical activity.

Is participation in this trial still available to qualified individuals?

"Data from clinicaltrials.gov suggests that this trial is no longer accepting new candidates, as it was initially posted on November 1st 2023 and last edited on October 19th of the same year. However, 833 other medical trials are currently looking for participants to join their research efforts."

Answered by AI

Are persons above the age of thirty-five being admitted to this clinical investigation?

"In order to be included in this trial, potential participants must range between 65 and 79 years old. Of the 472 studies conducted by our team, 66 were for those below 18 while 406 involved elderly patients."
