Study Summary

This trial tests how a mobile app with a relational AI chatbot can improve physical activity behavior in people. It uses 5 types of relational messages during an intervention to promote positive human-AI relationships.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults in the U.S. who are over 18, speak English, have internet access and a smartphone, but are not physically active at work or during their free time. It's not for those unable to consent, minors, prisoners, pregnant women or anyone already meeting physical activity guidelines.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests an AI chatbot designed to promote physical activity over a week. One group interacts with a relational chatbot using social dialogue and empathy; another gets messages from a non-relational bot without these features. The goal is to see if the relational bot can better boost exercise habits.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves behavior change through digital interaction rather than medication or medical procedures, traditional side effects aren't expected. However, participants may experience discomfort with technology use or psychological effects from interacting with the AI.
