GIST-MAAT Trial Summary

This trial will help to determine if MAAT is an effective treatment for CRCI in people with gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) who have had at least a year of TKI therapy and are experiencing memory and concentration issues. Participants must speak English, consent to the study, be willing to use videoconferencing for sessions, and not have severe mental disorders or a history of certain cancer treatments.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The trial is testing Memory and Attention Adaptation Training (MAAT), a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy delivered via videoconference aimed at reducing cognitive impairments in GIST patients. It evaluates the effectiveness on self-reported cognitive issues as well as objective neuropsychological tests.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since MAAT involves psychological training rather than medication, typical drug side effects aren't expected. However, participants may experience fatigue or emotional discomfort during the cognitive exercises.

What are the projected results of this experiment?

"The primary measured outcome of this study, which will be tracked over 8 (or up to 12) weekly MAAT visits, is the Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT). Secondary objectives include a PROMIS Item Bank analysis on Anxiety- Short Form 8a., FACT-Cog PCI and PROMIS Item Bank -Emotional Distress - Short Form 8a. These assessments use 5- point Likert ratings that produce four distinct scales: Quality of life, Cognitive Impairments, Comments from Others and Perceived Abilities; while emotional distress results are indicated by higher scores."
