Study Summary

This trial seeks to improve economic mobility and financial well-being of BMC employees and their families through career and financial coaching and resource referrals. It will also assess changes in physical and mental health, and food and housing security.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for recently hired Boston Medical Center employees since June 2021, earning up to $35/hour and financially responsible for a child under 18. They must live in specific zip codes around the area. Those who've already worked with the Career Navigator or don't consent are excluded.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if six months of Career Navigator coaching can improve financial well-being, health, and reduce social risks like food insecurity. Participants will be split into two groups receiving interventions at different times to compare outcomes before and after help.See study design

There are no medical side effects as this is not a drug trial; however, participants may experience changes in their economic status or stress levels due to new financial management practices or career changes encouraged by the coaching.

Group I: Delayed Career Navigator CoachingExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Participants randomized into this group will be invited to participate in the quantitative and qualitative surveys For the first six months, participants in Groups 2 will not receive the intervention and will function as a control group. When the study reaches the sixth-month Group 2 participants will receive the intervention - tailored coaching sessions with the Career Navigator. The intervention will be tailored for each participant according to their need. The Career Navigator will be in charge to plan and develop tools to help the participant achieve their own goals.
Group II: Career Navigator CoachingExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Participants randomized into this group will be invited to participate in the quantitative and qualitative surveys. At baseline, participants in Group1 will receive the intervention- tailored coaching sessions with the Career Navigator which will continue until the end of the 6th month. The intervention will be tailored for each participant according to their need. The Career Navigator will be in charge to plan and develop tools to help the participant achieve their own goals.
