Study Summary

This trial will examine the effect of time restricted eating (TRE) combined with either resistance training or aerobic training on body weight, body composition, metabolic disease risk, and cognition in adults over age 50.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 50-85 with prediabetes and obesity (BMI of 30-50), who are sedentary or lightly active. It's not for shift workers, those with eating disorders, major cognitive impairments, smokers, people unable to report diet or activity accurately, those not weight stable recently, diagnosed with diabetes (T1DM/T2DM), mobility issues, or on weight/glucose control drugs.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests time restricted eating (TRE) combined with either resistance training or aerobic exercise in older adults. TRE involves an eating window of 8-10 hours without calorie counting. The goal is to see if this leads to weight loss, better body composition, improved insulin sensitivity and cognition.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects may include hunger during fasting periods and fatigue due to changes in diet and new exercise routines. Muscle soreness from resistance training and the usual risks associated with aerobic exercises could also occur.
