Study Summary

This trial will investigate the effectiveness of different types of feedback and goals on driving behaviors, such as hard braking, fast acceleration, phone use, and speeding. Participants will receive feedback on their driving, safe

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals over 18 with a valid driver's license, smartphone (iPhone iOS 12/Android OS 7 or later), and who drive regularly. They must be able to read English and provide contact information. The goal is to encourage safe driving habits using feedback from a mobile app.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if focused feedback on driving behaviors along with safe driving tips and financial incentives can improve driving safety. Participants will use an app that monitors their driving for six weeks before being randomly assigned to one of four groups for further evaluation.See study design

There are no medical side effects as this is not a drug trial; however, participants may experience changes in their driving behavior due to the feedback and incentives provided by the study.

Group I: Self-Chosen Goal with UBI-like Behavioral IncentiveActive Control4 Interventions
Participants will have the Way to Drive app monitoring in the background, and will receive payment or non-adherence messages as needed, but will also receive Self-Chosen Focus Area Feedback, Driving Tips, Study Dashboard, and UBI-like Behavioral Incentive.
Group II: ControlActive Control1 Intervention
Participants will have the Way to Drive app monitoring in the background throughout the intervention period for overall driving score, handheld phone use, speeding, hard braking, and fast acceleration. They will not receive feedback, driving tips or UBI-like behavioral incentives. Participants will also receive payment or non-adherence messages as needed for having the app functioning.
Group III: Standard Feedback + UBI-like Behavioral IncentiveActive Control4 Interventions
Participants will have the Way to Drive app monitoring in the background, and will receive payment or non-adherence messages as needed, but will also receive, Standard Feedback, Study Dashboard, Driving Tips, and UBI-like Behavioral Incentive
Group IV: Assigned Goal with UBI-like Behavioral IncentiveActive Control4 Interventions
Participants will have the Way to Drive app monitoring in the background, and will receive payment or non-adherence messages as needed, but will also receive Assigned Focus Area Feedback, Driving Tips, a Study Dashboard, and UBI-like Behavioral Incentive
