Study Summary

This trial will test if virtual reality can help treat phobias/social anxiety in kids, especially those with autism. Researchers also hope to learn more about these issues.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for youth aged 8-16 in Miami-Dade County with social anxiety or specific phobias, with or without autism. Participants need a caregiver to help with the study and must speak English or Spanish. Those currently in psychotherapy, non-verbal due to intellectual disability, or needing more intensive psychiatric care are excluded.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The trial tests virtual reality exposure therapy's effectiveness for treating phobias and social anxiety in young people. It aims to see if VR can help reduce fear and anxiety symptoms by simulating real-life situations in a controlled environment.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While not explicitly listed, potential side effects of VR therapy may include temporary discomfort like dizziness, nausea, eye strain, disorientation or an increase in anxiety levels during initial exposure.
