Study Summary

This trial will test if a virtual culinary medicine program can improve diet, nutrition knowledge, and cooking skills, and also patient health outcomes.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English or Spanish speakers with type 2 diabetes and a BMI of 25 or higher, who are patients at UT Physicians clinics. They must have recent lab results and be able to get groceries for classes. It's not for those without internet/device access or an impairment that prevents participation.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if virtual Culinary Medicine (CM) classes can improve diet, nutrition knowledge, cooking skills, and health markers like HbA1c, BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol levels compared to standard care. The feasibility of online CM courses is also evaluated.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since the intervention involves dietary education rather than medication, typical drug side effects aren't expected. However, changes in diet may lead to temporary digestive adjustments or food-related reactions depending on individual tolerances.
