What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this study is to see if a combination of an educational curriculum and health coaching embedded within Special Olympics improves health outcomes and healthcare access compared to regular Special Olympics sport and health programming for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

Inclusion Criteria

My care partner is at least 21 years old.
Special Olympic Athletes: Currently participating in Special Olympics programming at a state agency in the study
I have been diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability.

Exclusion Criteria

My ability to give consent changes over time.
I am unable to understand or agree to the consent process.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Intervention

Participants receive either the Comprehensive Community Health (CCH) intervention or standard Special Olympics programming

18 months
Regular visits as per intervention schedule

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for changes in healthcare access, satisfaction, self-advocacy, and quality of life

18 months
Assessments at baseline, 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 months
