Study Summary

This trial will study changes in the brain during Engage, a therapy for depression in older adults, and compare them to changes during supportive therapy.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 60 or older with major depressive disorder without psychotic features. They must be able to consent, have a certain level of depression severity, and either not be on antidepressants or on a stable dose. Participants should not have severe cognitive impairment, suicidal intent, other current serious psychiatric diagnoses, use certain psychotropic drugs, or suffer from neurological disorders or severe physical illnesses.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study compares two types of therapy for late-life depression: Engage Therapy and Supportive Therapy. Over 9 weeks, participants will receive one of these therapies and undergo assessments including questionnaires, computer tasks, and EEGs to monitor brain activity changes associated with each treatment method.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since the interventions are psychotherapies (Engage Therapy and Supportive Therapy), they do not involve medication; therefore typical drug side effects are not expected. However, discussing emotional topics during therapy can sometimes cause temporary discomfort.
