Study Summary

This trial will use remote technology to give individuals with dementia and their care partners an evidence-based online exercise program to reduce falls. It will evaluate its effectiveness, adoption, & maintenance.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking adults over 60 with mild to moderate dementia, living at home. They must be medically stable without any of the conditions listed in the exclusion criteria and have a physician's confirmation of their dementia diagnosis.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if individuals with dementia can use remote technology to participate in the Otago Exercise Program from home. It involves online exercises three times a week, once supervised via Zoom and twice independently, to prevent falls.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this program focuses on exercise, potential side effects may include muscle soreness or strain. However, as it's designed for fall prevention, risks are minimized by having care partners oversee safety.

What aim does this research endeavor hope to achieve?

"The primary outcome to be measured over Weeks 0, 8 and 16 is the variation in performance of a participant's 30-second Sit to Stand. Secondary outcomes include assessing the time taken for participants to stand, walk 3 meters, turn around and sit using Timed Up and Go (TUG), Short Falls Efficacy Scale-International (Short FES-I) which records subjective fear or concern about falling from 7 to 28 with higher scores indicating greater worry, as well as Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at Pre-intervention and Delayed Post-intervention stages which uses a 30 item cognitive screening tool with scores ranging from"
