Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

The main objective of this project is to test whether providing parenting support, with an added emphasis on ethnic-racial socialization and healthy lifestyle behaviors, improves the social-emotional functioning and healthy lifestyle behaviors of Black and Latinx children.

Do I need to stop my current medications to join the trial?

The trial protocol does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What data supports the effectiveness of the Parenting Intervention treatment for child behavior improvement?

Research shows that positive parenting skills, which are a key part of parenting interventions, play a crucial role in improving child behavior. Studies on programs like Triple P and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) demonstrate that these interventions can lead to significant improvements in parenting skills and child behavior when implemented with high fidelity and effective coaching.12345

Is the Parenting Intervention for Child Behavior Improvement safe for participants?

Parenting interventions, such as the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program, have been evaluated and are generally considered safe. They focus on improving parenting skills and child behavior without known harmful effects.678910

How is the Parenting Intervention treatment different from other treatments for child behavior improvement?

The Parenting Intervention treatment is unique because it focuses on improving parenting skills and family dynamics to enhance child behavior, rather than directly targeting the child's behavior itself. This approach is part of a broader public health strategy, like the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program, which aims to improve parenting quality on a large scale, making it accessible and effective for a wide range of families.611121314

Findings from Research

The Leader Observation Tool effectively predicts changes in parenting skills after participating in the Incredible Years parent training program, highlighting the importance of implementer skills in achieving positive outcomes.
Higher treatment fidelity in delivering parent training not only maintains the intervention's effectiveness but also leads to improved parenting behaviors, which subsequently result in better child behavior outcomes.
Treatment fidelity as a predictor of behaviour change in parents attending group-based parent training.Eames, C., Daley, D., Hutchings, J., et al.[2009]
In a clinical trial involving 166 families, the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program demonstrated high treatment fidelity, with over 80% adherence to content and similarly high process fidelity scores, indicating effective implementation of the program.
Practitioners reported that the fidelity promotion strategies, including expert training and ongoing supervision, were beneficial and helped increase their self-efficacy in delivering the program.
Development and Validation of Fidelity Monitoring and Enhancement in an Evidence-Based Parenting Program.Sanders, MR., Spry, CS., Tellegen, CL., et al.[2021]
The Therapist-Parent Interaction Coding System (TPICS) effectively captures various coaching techniques used by therapists during Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), based on an analysis of 61 video-recorded sessions.
The study found that responsive coaching techniques, such as providing praise, helped improve parents' skills between sessions, while directive coaching methods did not show the same effect, indicating the importance of tailored feedback in enhancing parenting behaviors.
