SAHARA-Pilot Trial Summary

This trial is testing whether a six-month multimedia health intervention can help reduce heart disease risk factors in South Asians, who are more likely than people of European descent to develop these risk factors at a younger age and at lower body weight.

Who is the study for?
The SAHARA pilot is for South Asians aged 30 or older from Ontario, without previous heart disease. Participants must have ancestry from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka and be comfortable using the internet and multimedia devices.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
This study tests a 6-month interactive multimedia program aimed at improving lifestyle choices like smoking habits, diet, and exercise against usual care in reducing heart risk factors among South Asians. It also examines if knowing genetic risks affects behavior change.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial focuses on lifestyle improvements through educational interventions rather than medication or medical procedures, significant side effects are not anticipated. However, changes in diet and activity levels may cause temporary discomfort.
