Study Summary

This trial is testing whether DBT, a type of therapy, can help people with borderline personality disorder.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for men and women aged 18-60 with Borderline Personality Disorder who've had at least two instances of suicidal behavior. Participants can be on stable meds or none, but can't have Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Mental Retardation, Substance Dependence, or be in other psychotherapies.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a 6-month Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for Borderline Personality Disorder. It includes weekly group sessions (90 mins), individual sessions (60 mins), and as-needed phone access to therapists.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While DBT itself doesn't cause medical side effects, participants may experience emotional discomfort due to the intense nature of therapy as they work through difficult personal issues.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Measures of parasuicidal behavior, suicidal ideation, mood and emotion, dissociation and health care utilization at baseline, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months
Secondary outcome measures
Measures of cognitive processing at baseline and 6 months
