SVT Trial Summary

This trial is testing a new method of training called Social Value Training (SVT) to see if it can help reduce symptoms of ASD in toddlers.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for toddlers aged 18 months who may show signs of autism. They must have been born full-term, with a normal weight, and have an older sibling diagnosed with ASD. Toddlers should also score above a certain threshold on the ADOS-2 test indicating clinical autism symptoms. Those with congenital infections, seizure disorders, hearing or vision impairments, chromosomal abnormalities, prenatal drug exposure or family history of major psychotic disorders cannot participate.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests Social Value Training (SVT) to see if it can improve attention to faces in toddlers showing early signs of autism. Over two days, participants will undergo SVT using eye-tracking technology and their responses will be measured before training, after training and at follow-up through tasks assessing selective attention both in the lab and real-world settings.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves behavioral training rather than medication or invasive procedures, traditional side effects are not expected. However, participation could potentially include fatigue from testing sessions or distress due to unfamiliarity with the setting.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Proportion of looking at faces during the laboratory and real-world tests
Secondary outcome measures
Proportion of looking at the scene during laboratory and real-world tests

Group I: Social Value LearningExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
For each child, two faces, randomly selected from the pool of four faces, will be assigned the high-value (HV) status and the other two the low-value (LV) status. Value status will be randomized between the faces and children and all four faces will have the same probability of being assigned HV or LV across all participants. A gaze fixation on a HV face will always activate a dynamic display and the face will smile brightly. A gaze fixation on a LV face will always result in no change to its display. Effects of training will be tested one day (efficacy) and one month (maintenance) after training. During each of the follow-up assessments, each child will first undergo the Laboratory Selective Attention (LSA) task to assess if they retained value-face associations from the training sessions, followed by the Real-World Selective Attention (RWSA) task to evaluate generalization.

Are there any vacant slots where volunteers can participate in this clinical trial?

"According to the latest information contained on clinicaltrials.gov, this trial is actively searching for eligible participants; it was initially posted in December 2019 and updated most recently in July 2022."

Answered by AI

Is my profile appropriate to be considered for this clinical study?

"This trial is enrolling 48 infants with autism spectrum disorder between 15 and 21 months of age. To qualify, applicants must have been born within a gestational period of 37-42 weeks; have an older full biological sibling diagnosed with ASD; meet the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2) criteria at 18 months of age, as denoted by a calibrated severity score above 3."

Answered by AI

Is the age criterion for this research limited to those above 85 years old?

"The eligibility requirements for this trial restrict enrollment to infants aged 15-21 months. There are 228 trials currently recruiting minors and 42 that seek the participation of elderly individuals."

Answered by AI

What is the upper limit of participants in this research endeavor?

"Affirmative. Clinicaltrials.gov conveys that this clinical trial, which commenced on December 13th 2019, is currently enrolling participants. There is a need for 48 individuals to go through the study at one particular site."
