Study Summary

This trial will compare an online cognitive behavioural therapy (e-RPT) to traditional face-to-face therapy for alcohol use disorder (AUD). The aim is to create a more cost-effective, accessible form of treatment to address AUD in the general population.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults who can speak and read English, have mild to moderate Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) as per DSM-5, are ready to stop drinking or have stopped in the last 30 days, and have reliable internet access. It's not for those with severe mental disorders or substance use issues, other ongoing AUD treatments, heavy drinkers beyond a set limit, or individuals with acute psychiatric emergencies.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study compares online relapse prevention therapy (e-RPT) with traditional face-to-face sessions for treating AUD. Both methods involve ten sessions covering similar content but delivered differently—one through pre-designed modules plus therapist feedback online and the other in person.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves psychological therapy rather than medication, typical side effects associated with drugs aren't expected. However, participants may experience emotional discomfort addressing their alcohol use during therapy.
