Study Summary

This trial will test a new intervention designed to help people with HIV who have missed appointments and fallen out of care to re-engage in care and stay on track.

Who is the study for?
THRIVE is for adults over 18 with HIV who aren't consistently in care, have a viral load over 1000 c/mL, and use avoidance coping strategies. They must be hospitalized at Ben Taub Hospital, Houston, TX, speak English or Spanish, and can consent to participate. Excluded are those incarcerated, pregnant women or involved in other studies.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The THRIVE trial is testing a new intervention aimed at improving outpatient HIV care engagement post-hospitalization for patients practicing avoidance. It compares the effectiveness of usual treatment against the THRIVE program to see if it helps reduce viral loads and improve retention in care.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial focuses on an engagement intervention rather than medication, traditional side effects like those seen with drugs are not applicable here. However, participants may experience emotional or psychological discomfort discussing their condition.
