PTPMD Trial Summary

This trial will test a new scooter and wheelchair that are powered by compressed air, to see if they are more practical than the battery-powered versions for Veterans living in long-term care facilities.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for Veterans living in long-term care facilities who are at least 18 years old and use or need a scooter or basic power wheelchair. Participants must speak English to give informed consent.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing two types of mobility devices: traditional battery-powered wheelchairs/scooters versus innovative pneumatically powered ones. The goal is to see if air-powered devices offer benefits over battery-operated ones in terms of weight, safety, and maintenance.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves mechanical devices rather than drugs, 'side effects' may include issues like discomfort using the device or difficulties with maneuverability compared to traditional models.
