Study Summary

This trial will compare the cost effectiveness and tolerability of standard gastrostomy tubes to newer capsule dome gastrostomy tubes.

Who is the study for?
Adults aged 18-75 who need long-term tube feeding for more than a year and are due for a change of their gastrostomy tube. They must be able to communicate in English, understand the study's checklists, and have signed an informed consent form. Those with cognitive impairments or conditions preventing telephone communication cannot participate.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study compares two types of gastric feeding tubes: standard balloon bolus tubes versus newer capsule dome G-tubes. It aims to assess which is more cost-effective and tolerable over time, considering the higher price of the new model.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While specific side effects are not listed, typical concerns with gastric feeding tubes may include discomfort at the insertion site, potential infection risk, or issues related to tube maintenance and longevity.
