Study Summary

This trial will compare the effects of tranexamic acid to a placebo on patients who have just had a total knee replacement.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals undergoing primary total knee replacement who can walk, are willing to participate, will attend physical therapy at Campbell Clinic Wolf River, and understand English. It's not for those unwilling to join, with a history of cancer (except certain skin cancers), on pre-op anticoagulants other than low-dose aspirin, or with past thromboembolic events.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study compares the effects of an oral tranexamic acid pill versus a placebo taken after knee replacement surgery. The goal is to see how each affects blood loss, pain levels post-surgery, and patient-reported outcomes.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Tranexamic acid may cause side effects such as nausea or diarrhea. In rare cases it could increase the risk of blood clots; however specific side effects in this trial have not been listed.
