Study Summary

This trial is testing whether minocycline, a drug that is already FDA approved, can help treat neurogenic hypertension, which is a type of hypertension that is caused by overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 18-85 with high blood pressure that's not controlled despite taking three different types of blood pressure meds, including a diuretic. They must be on a stable medication regimen and willing to consent to study procedures. It excludes those with poor kidney function, women who can get pregnant, people allergic to Minocycline or tetracyclines, substance abusers, recent hospitalization for severe hypertension crisis or frequent drops in blood pressure upon standing.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests whether increasing doses of Minocycline can lower blood pressure in patients whose hypertension doesn't respond well to drugs. It explores the idea that Minocycline might calm overactive nerves that contribute to high blood pressure by crossing into the brain and reducing inflammation there.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Minocycline is generally safe and FDA-approved but may cause side effects like dizziness, fatigue, changes in color of skin/gums/teeth/nails/scars/stretch marks/saliva/sweat/urine/bowel movements (may become permanent), sores or swelling in your rectum or genital area.
