PROTECT Trial Summary

This trial will compare two methods of preventing infection in nursing homes: routine chlorhexidine bathing and periodic use of nasal antiseptics. The goal is to see if these methods can reduce hospitalizations, antibiotic use, and multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) prevalence.

Eligible Conditions
  • Infection
  • Hospitalizations

PROTECT Trial Timeline

Screening ~ 3 weeks
Treatment ~ Varies
Follow Up ~once in baseline and once at end-intervention (month 15-18 of intervention period)
This trial's timeline: 3 weeks for screening, Varies for treatment, and once in baseline and once at end-intervention (month 15-18 of intervention period) for reporting.

Frequently Asked Questions

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

How many healthcare facilities are facilitating this clinical trial?

"Currently, 28 medical sites are hosting this trial. Examples of these locations include Capistrano Beach, Long Beach and Bellflower. It is recommended that participants select the closest site to them in order to minimise travel requirements associated with the study."

Answered by AI

What is the most common purpose of Decolonization?

"Decolonization is a process that can be employed to treat antisepsis, as well as disinfection of wounds, pharyngitis, and pressure sores."

Answered by AI

Are there any potential risks associated with Decolonization initiatives?

"Our scientists have assigned Decolonization a score of 3, which is the highest possible given that this treatment has already been approved by regulatory authorities."

Answered by AI

What is the participant capacity of this clinical research study?

"Unfortunately, this clinical trial is not currently taking on any new patients. First posted in April 2017 and most recently updated in June 2022, other studies are available with 800 trials related to infection presently enrolling participants as well as 28 Decolonization-focused studies that require volunteers."

Answered by AI

Has Decolonization been investigated in other clinical experiments?

"Currently, 28 Decolonization research projects are in progress. Of those studies, 5 have advanced to Phase 3 trials. There is a concentration of clinical sites located in Greenville South carolina but the investigation spans 121 different locations across the US."

Answered by AI

Is there a call for volunteers to participate in this research endeavor?

"Evidently, this clinical trial is no longer accepting applicants as reported on clinicaltrials.gov; the initial posting was 4/3/2017 and it has been modified for the last time on 6/7/2022. However, there are 828 other trials that have open recruitment at present."
