Study Summary
This trial uses a drug that becomes active when exposed to light to kill cancer cells. It is testing to see if this is an effective treatment against skin cancer and what side effects there may be.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for mentally competent adults with a confirmed diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma on their trunk or limbs, and the tumor must be 2 cm in diameter or smaller. Participants should not have infections, history of severe scarring, light-triggered conditions, be taking blood thinners (excluding aspirin), immunosuppressants, antioxidants, or have had certain skin treatments and procedures within specific time frames.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing photodynamic therapy using aminolevulinic acid to treat non-melanoma skin cancer. The drug activates under particular light conditions to kill tumor cells. This phase II trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness and side effects of this treatment approach.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects may include reactions at the site where the drug is applied such as redness, swelling, and discomfort due to sensitivity to light since the treatment involves activating drugs with light exposure.
