This trial will test whether the drug Valtrex can safely and effectively treat anal and genital HSV infections in HIV-infected patients.

- You agree to use effective methods of birth control from 2 weeks before taking study drug, throughout the study, and for 4 weeks after completing the studyI might qualify for this study.I have herpes simplex virus 2.I have been on HIV treatment for at least 2 months.I have had 4 or more genital herpes outbreaks in the past year.I have a disease affecting my blood vessels.I have been on HIV medication for at least 2 months.I've had 4 or more genital herpes outbreaks in the last year.I have kidney or liver issues.I am willing to stop my anti-herpes medication for the study.I am willing to stop interferon treatment to join the study.My HSV infection is resistant to common antivirals.I am 18 years old or older.I have open sores on my genitals or anus.I cannot take medications orally.I have herpes simplex virus 2.I am HIV-positive.I am 18 years old or older.
- No Placebo-Only Group - All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.
- Pivotal Trial - The final step before approval, pivotal trials feature drugs that have already shown basic safety & efficacy.
- Screening: It may take up to 3 Weeks to process to see if you qualify in this trial.
- Treatment: The duration you will receive the treatment varies.
- Follow Ups: You may be asked to continue sharing information regarding the trial for 6 Months after you stop receiving the treatment.
