Study Summary

This trial will compare healing rates of foot ulcers in diabetics receiving standard care vs. standard care + shockwave therapy.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 with Type 2 diabetes and a single chronic foot ulcer on the bottom of the foot that's lasted at least 6 weeks but less than a year, measuring between 1-4 cm. Participants must have good blood flow to their foot, be able to care for their wound at home, and commit to study requirements. Excluded are those with severe health issues like anemia or malnutrition, certain diseases like HIV or sickle cell anemia, recent surgeries or treatments affecting immunity or ulcers.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if shockwave treatment plus standard care (like dressings and orthotics) heals chronic plantar foot ulcers better than just standard care in diabetic patients. It looks at safety and effectiveness by comparing two groups: one receiving shockwaves plus regular care and another getting only regular care.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While specific side effects of extracorporeal shockwave therapy aren't detailed here, common ones from similar procedures include pain during treatment, redness, swelling at the site of the ulcer, bruising around treated area, numbness or tingling in nearby areas.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Time to Complete Wound Healing
Secondary outcome measures
o A comparison of the total number of subjects with a final status of "Healed" in the active versus control group
o Durability of wound closure (i.e., status of wound at one week following determination of "healed")
