VAntagePilot Trial Summary

This trial would study if it's possible to recruit smokers and their support people, to see if smoking cessation methods work better when someone is helping them quit.

Who is the study for?
The VAntage Pilot study is for veterans aged 18 or older who smoke cigarettes regularly and have a support person willing to participate. Both the veteran and their support must be able to use phones, with the veteran also needing a smartphone or tablet.Check my eligibility

This pilot project tests whether coaching interventions and written materials provided to a smoker's chosen support person can help in smoking cessation efforts among veterans preparing for a larger trial.See study design

Group I: Support Person Coaching InterventionExperimental Treatment2 Interventions
Support persons in the intervention arm will receive existing written materials on effective social support strategies for smoking cessation. Materials will be sent via postal mail. Support persons in this arm will also complete a one-session coaching intervention (15-25 minutes) delivered virtually by research staff via phone.

Support persons in the intervention arm will receive existing written materials on effective social support strategies for smoking cessation. Materials will be sent via postal mail.
