CEASE Trial Summary

This trialis testing the effectiveness of virtual and in-person versions of a smoking cessation program to reduce tobacco use in low-income communities in Baltimore City. Trained peer-motivators deliver the intervention, which includes a CEASE website and manual, to help people quit smoking.

Who is the study for?
Adults aged 21+ who currently smoke and are ready to quit can join this trial. They must consent to participate and, for the virtual program, have access to a device with internet or cellular data. People cannot join if they're unable to consent due to health conditions or lack device access in areas assigned the virtual intervention.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing how effective virtual peer-motivation smoking cessation programs are compared to enhanced in-person ones across three communities in Baltimore City. Participants will be randomly placed into either a virtual program, an in-person program, or a control group that receives self-help materials.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves behavioral interventions rather than medications, traditional side effects like those seen with drugs aren't expected. However, participants may experience stress or discomfort related to quitting smoking.
