eCALM Trial Summary

This trial will study whether an online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program can help reduce stress, mood disturbance, and fatigue for cancer patients, as well as improve quality of life and sleep.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults in Alberta with any type of cancer, who have moderate distress and limited access to in-person mindfulness programs. They must have internet access, speak English well enough for surveys, and be within 36 months post-primary treatment. Those with major psychiatric disorders, substance abuse issues or previous MBSR experience are excluded.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests an online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program against a wait-list control group to see if it reduces stress and improves mood for cancer patients. Participants will engage in the program for about 2 hours weekly over eight weeks plus a full-day retreat.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves mindfulness training rather than medication, typical drug side effects aren't expected. However, participants may experience emotional discomfort as they confront stressful thoughts during the process.
