Study Summary

This trial will test if small financial incentives can help people in poverty quit smoking. 160 people will be enrolled and followed to see if the incentives help them quit.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults who smoke at least 5 cigarettes daily, are over 18, live in one of the 16 persistent poverty counties in Oklahoma, and want to quit smoking through the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline. They must be able to provide ID proof, read and speak English, and have no issues using nicotine replacement therapy.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if small financial rewards can help people stop smoking when added to standard care. Participants will receive counseling from the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline and could get money for attending sessions and not smoking.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
There may not be direct medical side effects from participating; however, participants might experience stress or frustration related to quitting smoking or due to the process of trying to meet criteria for financial incentives.
