What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores the effects of CBD, a compound from the cannabis plant, as a treatment for invasive breast cancer. Participants will take either a low or high dose of oral CBD or a placebo, which has no therapeutic effect, before their scheduled surgery. Researchers aim to determine how CBD might influence cancer cells in a short time frame. The trial suits women with confirmed invasive breast cancer (stages I to III) who are scheduled for surgery and can manage the trial's requirements. As a Phase 1 trial, the research focuses on understanding how the treatment works in people, offering participants the opportunity to be among the first to receive this new treatment.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that taking CBD orally has been safe in past studies. For example, studies with women who have advanced breast cancer found that CBD was safe and even helped reduce anxiety, with participants experiencing no major safety issues.

In another study, CBD proved safe for women anxious about medical scans, with no serious side effects reported. This suggests that CBD is generally well-tolerated. While the current trial is in an early stage, existing evidence from other studies is promising regarding the safety of CBD in humans.12345

Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for breast cancer?

Unlike traditional treatments for breast cancer, which often include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, the CBD oral treatment offers a novel approach by utilizing cannabidiol, a compound derived from the cannabis plant. Researchers are excited about CBD because it has a different mechanism of action; it interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which may help in managing pain and inflammation associated with cancer. Additionally, the oral delivery method makes it potentially more convenient and less invasive than other treatment modalities. This exploration of CBD could open new avenues for symptom relief and support in cancer care.

What evidence suggests that CBD Oral might be an effective treatment for breast cancer?

Research has shown that CBD (cannabidiol) might help fight breast cancer. Studies suggest that CBD can slow cancer cell growth, induce cell death, and prevent the cancer from spreading. In one study, CBD significantly shrank breast cancer tumors. Another study found that CBD can lower levels of a protein called ID1, which aids in cancer spread. This trial will evaluate the effects of CBD Oral, administered at either 175mg or 350mg twice daily, compared to a placebo control. These findings suggest that CBD could be a promising treatment for breast cancer by directly targeting cancer cells.24678
