Why did patients apply to this trial?

I have been told by two ENT's that my tinnitus is permanent with no hope of improvement and is not caused by any trauma or other medical condition. My tinnitus is loud to the point that if I tried to mask it with other sounds around me they would have to be so loud that they would aggravate my tinnitus temporally. I am at the point of being desperate to try anything to help me.
