DYD Trial Summary

This trial will study how a healthy plant-based diet can protect African Americans from heart disease. Changes to diet and lifestyle could lower the risk.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for Black or African American individuals aged 40 and above with at least one form of obesity, high waist circumference, diagnosed heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes without disability, high blood pressure (hypertension), abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. It's not for those with severe kidney disease, other racial groups under age 40, normal weight and waist size, advanced congestive heart failure or certain orthopedic conditions.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if a plant-based diet recommended by the American Heart Association can influence genes to protect against cardiovascular diseases in Blacks/African Americans who are at higher risk. The focus is on dietary changes that could reduce this risk.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since the intervention involves dietary changes rather than medication or surgery, side effects may include adjustments in digestion or energy levels as the body adapts to new eating habits. Specific side effects will depend on individual health conditions.
