"mood is related to our thoughts about life events, our self-image, and our opinions about other people. mood is not only about what's happening, but also about our thoughts and beliefs about what's happening. As a result, mood-related issues are extremely salient in the treatment of patients with psychiatric conditions in general, and in particular individuals with mood disorders." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The American Psychiatric Association expects 12.4 million new diagnoses will be made in 2013 on mood disorders and 4.4 million on anxiety and related conditions. It is projected that 0.8 million Americans will suffer from severe symptomatology. These data suggest that around 10 million Americans can expect a new diagnosis of a mood or anxiety disorder or severe mood disturbance during this period." - Anonymous Online Contributor

"Medications play an important role in treating mood disorders, but it is important to first rule out depression and hypomania as possibilities. The presence of depression is strongly associated with hypomania. Other treatments of mood disorders are psychosocial, such as psychotherapeutic interventions and cognitive behavioral therapy. It is important to recognize the possibility of comorbid mood disorders such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and bipolar disorder, particularly when untreated. Treatment is aimed at treating mood symptoms at the level of the individual, rather than treating the underlying cause of the problems.\n\nMental health issues are highly prevalent among members of the workforce." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"This is the first study to reveal an average age in American society when someone becomes mildly depressed. It was between 13 and 14 years old. Previous studies in the UK and Europe revealed higher figures. This is also the first study to provide an average age of depressive symptoms onset at 16.3 years. In a recent study, findings point to the need for depressive and bipolar disorder prevention and intervention programmes during adolescents." - Anonymous Online Contributor

There was no effect on the three mood-related health-related quality-of-life tools, but there was an effect on four general quality-of-life tools." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"Results from a recent paper indicate that common variants in the serotonin (5-HT) and adrenergic (ADR) systems predispose to mood disorder through their effects on mood, motivation, and reward." - Anonymous Online Contributor

"Treating mood disorders is highly effective and inexpensive, and this approach is the most promising in alleviating depressive symptoms. The most promising avenue is gene-targeting therapies." - Anonymous Online Contributor
