Study Summary

This trial will test whether improvements to specific motor skills can reduce falls in older adults by looking at how they respond to slips at different phases of the gait cycle.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults aged 19-35 or older adults aged 65-79 who can walk without limitations. It's not suitable for those with uncontrolled high blood pressure, vertigo, chronic dizziness, recent mobility-affecting surgery, Meniere's disease, neurological conditions like stroke or Parkinson's that impair walking ability, peripheral arterial disease, or a history of back/leg injuries.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests how people stabilize themselves when they slip during different walking phases using a novel wearable device that simulates real-life slips. Participants will experience unexpected slips while their movements are captured and analyzed to understand the effectiveness of reactive stabilization.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
There may be no direct side effects from participating in this trial; however, there is an inherent risk of falling due to the nature of slip perturbations being studied.

Experimental Treatment
Group I: Slipping PerturbationsExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
The intervention involves exposing participants to a series of 12 unannounced slip perturbations while walking overground. These perturbations will be delivered at 3 different times within the gait cycle - early phase, middle phase, and late phase.
