The Generic name of this drug
Treatment Summary
Azilsartan medoxomil, sold under the brand name Edarbi, is a drug used to treat high blood pressure. It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to narrow. It is usually prescribed as mono-therapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. It may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular events like stroke and heart attack. Azilsartan medoxomil may also have potential off-label uses in patients with a history of heart failure or heart attack.

Effectiveness
How Edarbyclor Affects Patients
Azilsartan medoxomil helps to lower blood pressure by blocking the angiotensin II receptor, which helps to reduce the amount of pressure in the blood vessels. It is not affected by a person's sex, race, or any form of kidney or liver impairment. In addition, it does not affect potassium, sodium, or bradykinin levels. Studies have shown that it can significantly reduce blood pressure in just one dose. There is no evidence that it works differently in people of African descent.
How Edarbyclor works in the body
Azilsartan medoxomil helps regulate blood pressure by blocking the effects of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a hormone that causes blood vessels to narrow, making blood pressure rise. Azilsartan binds to the receptor responsible for angiotensin II, blocking its effects and lowering blood pressure. It is more effective than other medications in this class because it binds more tightly to the receptor and takes longer to dissociate.

Edarbyclor Toxicity & Overdose Risk
There is no known maximum toxic dose of azilsartan yet. In clinical trials, healthy individuals tolerated a single dose of up to 320 mg without any significant side effects. If an overdose occurs, supportive measures should be taken as azilsartan cannot be removed through dialysis. Azilsartan is also a teratogenic agent, meaning it can cause birth defects if taken during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy.
