ELAPR002f Gel for Acne Scars

Wilmington, North Carolina
Atrophic acne scars are flat, indented or with an inverted center scars that develop at the endpoint of the normal healing process for acne. Acne scarring that remains after acne resolves has a significant impact on health related quality of life, including reduced self-esteem and embarrassment/self consciousness. ELAPR002f provides an immediate space-occupying effect for filling in the scar tissue. The purpose of this study is to assess how safe and effective ELAPR002f injectable gel is on adult participants with atrophic acne scars. ELAPR002f injectable gel is an investigational device being developed for the treatment of facial atrophic acne scars. There are 2 cohorts in this study. In Cohort 1, all participants will receive ELAPR002f injectable gel. In Cohort 2, participants are placed in 1 of 2 groups, called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment. There is a 1 in 4 chance that participants will be assigned to the saline active control group. Around 395 adult participants with moderate to severe atrophic acne scarring on both cheeks will be screened in the study in approximately 25 sites in the United States. Participants will receive 3 treatments over 2 months of intradermal injections of either ELAPR002f injectable gel or saline active control and will be followed for up to an additional 12 months. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, checking for side effects and completing questionnaires.

The main purpose of the SYNERGY-OUTCOMES study is to find out whether retatrutide and tirzepatide can prevent major adverse liver outcomes (MALO) in people with high-risk metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The study will enroll adults who have MASLD based on non-invasive tests (NITs), which indicate they are more likely to develop MALO. Participants will be randomly assigned within a Master Protocol to receive either retatrutide (N1T-MC-RT01), tirzepatide (N1T-MC-TZ01) or placebo. The trial plans to enroll about 4,500 adults and will run for approximately 224 weeks. Participants may have up to approximately 25 to 30 clinic visits throughout the study to monitor their health, complete study procedures, and assess liver function and disease progression. Once the study is complete, eligible participants may participate in an optional 2-year extension study, in which all participants will receive either retatrutide or tirzepatide, even if they received placebo in the main study.

"I've been struggling with ADHD and anxiety since I was 9 years old. I'm currently 30. I really don't like how numb the medications make me feel. And especially now, that I've lost my grandma and my aunt 8 days apart, my anxiety has been even worse. So I'm trying to find something new."

"I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer three months ago, metastatic to my liver, and I have been receiving and responding well to chemotherapy. My blood work revealed that my tumor markers have gone from 2600 in the beginning to 173 as of now, even with the delay in treatment, they are not going up. CT Scans reveal they have been shrinking as well. However, chemo is seriously deteriorating my body. I have 4 more treatments to go in this 12 treatment cycle. I am just interested in learning about my other options, if any are available to me."

ESK-001 for Plaque Psoriasis

Wilmington, North Carolina
The objective of the ESK-001-018 long term extension is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ESK-001 over time. The scientific questions it aims to answer are: * How safe is taking ESK-001 long-term in people with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis? * Does taking ESK-001 long-term reduce the severity of people's plaque psoriasis? Patients will enter the long-term extension study following completion of one of the parent studies (ESK-001-016 or ESK-001-017) and will receive open-label ESK-001 twice daily for 24 weeks. After 24 weeks, the first 200 patients meeting at least PASI-75 clinical response will be randomly assigned to receive ESK-001 or placebo. At any point during this time, the patients losing the initial clinical response may return to the open-label ESK-001 treatment. Patients who complete Week 48 will return to open-label ESK-001 treatment and they will receive ESK-001 until the end of the study or discontinuation. All the remaining patients not meeting the entry criteria for the randomized withdrawal phase will continue to receive open-label ESK-001 for the remainder of the study. Patients taking part in the study must be men or women aged at least 18 years old and have completed a previous (parent) study of ESK-001 in moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Patients must consent and agree to: * ensure drug daily compliance until end of study or discontinuation. * visit the clinic for checkups and assessments. * provide blood and urine samples.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do clinical trials in Wilmington, NC pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do clinical trials in Wilmington, NC work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials in Wilmington, NC 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length in Wilmington, NC is 12 months.

How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility in Wilmington, NC several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study in Wilmington, NC?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.

What are the newest clinical trials in Wilmington, NC?

Most recently, we added Retatrutide for Obesity, Cagrilintide for Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes and ELAPR002f Gel for Acne Scars to the Power online platform.
