Web-TIRELESS for Arm Pain
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests a new web-based program to manage arm pain and risky substance use. The program, called Web-TIRELESS, combines mind-body techniques to determine its effectiveness for people with ongoing arm pain not caused by an injury. Participants will be divided into two groups: one will try the Web-TIRELESS program, while the other will receive online educational materials and coping strategies. Suitable candidates have non-traumatic arm pain with a pain level above 4 and engage in risky use of substances like alcohol or cannabis. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to explore innovative pain management strategies and contribute to valuable research.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if your psychotropic medications (like antidepressants) have changed in the past 3 months, you may not be eligible to participate.
What prior data suggests that this web-based intervention is safe for patients with arm pain and substance use issues?
Research shows that Web-TIRELESS, an online program focusing on mind and body, is being tested for safety and effectiveness in managing pain and substance use. The program aims to build resilience and assist with long-term pain management. Researchers monitor participants for side effects and assess their progress at various intervals, including immediately after the program and six months later. So far, studies suggest that Web-TIRELESS is well-tolerated, with most participants experiencing no serious problems. While the program remains under study, past research on similar online pain management programs has shown promising results in reducing pain and improving overall well-being.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Web-TIRELESS is unique because it offers a 4-session, web-based mind-body intervention specifically designed to manage arm pain and substance use asynchronously. Unlike traditional treatments that often involve in-person therapy or medication, Web-TIRELESS allows users to engage with the program at their own pace and convenience. Researchers are excited about this approach because it combines pain management with substance use support, potentially addressing both issues simultaneously. This innovative method could offer a more holistic and accessible solution for individuals struggling with these challenges.
What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective for arm pain?
This trial will compare the Web-TIRELESS program with the Web-MEUC program. Studies have shown that mind-body programs like Web-TIRELESS can enhance resilience and reduce pain. Web-TIRELESS is an online program that teaches skills to manage pain and substance use. Early research suggests that such programs can significantly aid those with chronic pain. Although specific results for Web-TIRELESS are still being collected, it is based on proven methods used in similar pain management programs. This suggests it could be effective for individuals with painful upper-extremity conditions and risky substance use.12678
