Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

This study will utilize a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design and will be conducted on the medical and medical/surgical units at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Hospitalized patients on the intervention units will be offered the Inpatient Whole Health Bundle. This study will evaluate overall satisfaction with the hospital environment and care as well as the bundle and components using a mailed survey of patients discharged from each unit. This study will also conduct a qualitative assessment of the intervention to understand intervention experiences as well as barriers and facilitators to improving hospitalized patient well-being. Finally, the study will assess unit-level metrics.

Do I need to stop taking my current medications for this trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What data supports the effectiveness of the Inpatient Whole Health Bundle treatment for patient satisfaction?

Research shows that patient satisfaction can be improved by focusing on communication and pain management, as seen in a study where a patient-centered approach increased satisfaction scores significantly. Additionally, high satisfaction levels are often linked to patients feeling their health has improved and receiving good information from healthcare providers.12345

Is the Whole Health Program safe for humans?

The available research does not provide specific safety data for the Whole Health Program or its variations. However, general studies on patient safety during hospitalization highlight the importance of minimizing adverse events to ensure patient safety.678910

How does the Inpatient Whole Health Bundle treatment differ from other treatments for patient satisfaction?

The Inpatient Whole Health Bundle is unique because it focuses on a holistic approach to patient care, aiming to improve overall patient satisfaction by addressing not just medical needs but also psychological and emotional well-being during hospitalization. This approach is different from traditional treatments that may focus primarily on medical outcomes without integrating comprehensive patient satisfaction strategies.14111213

Findings from Research

A study assessing patient satisfaction in a private tertiary care hospital found that 100 in-patients reported an overall satisfaction score of 87.12%, indicating a high level of contentment with the care and services received.
The study utilized a stratified random sampling method and a structured questionnaire, highlighting the importance of systematic approaches in evaluating healthcare outcomes.

A quality improvement project across 21 medical centers implemented a patient-centered approach to enhance inpatient pain management, resulting in a significant increase in patient satisfaction scores.
The patient satisfaction with pain management improved from the 25th percentile to nearly the 75th percentile nationally, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new nursing practices developed using human-centered design principles.
Quality Improvement Project to Improve Patient Satisfaction With Pain Management: Using Human-Centered Design.Trail-Mahan, T., Heisler, S., Katica, M.[2017]
In a study of 101 adult inpatients with prolonged hospital stays averaging 35 days, fewer consultations with physicians were found to be the strongest predictor of patient satisfaction regarding communication.
Factors such as nonoperative admissions and no intensive care unit stays also positively influenced satisfaction, indicating that simplifying patient care processes may enhance overall patient experiences.
The number of inpatient consultations is negatively correlated with patient satisfaction in patients with prolonged hospital stays.Schmocker, RK., Holden, SE., Vang, X., et al.[2022]
