15 Participants Needed

Foam Rolling for Muscle Strength

Age: 18 - 65
Sex: Any
Trial Phase: Academic
Sponsor: University of Redlands
No Placebo GroupAll trial participants will receive the active study treatment (no placebo)

Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

This study is a within-subject controlled trial . The investigators will compare unilateral force production in a bodyweight double-leg squat before and after a standardized foam rolling session with the use of Vald ForceDecks. TheForceDecks use sensors embedded within separate plates to record the forces exerted. Participants will have their weight, height, and dorsiflexion range of motion measured prior to performing 3 double-leg squats. Participants will then be instructed on the foam rolling technique. They will perform the technique on each quadriceps group and will state their pain level at 30 seconds and at 2 minutes using the VAS pain scale.

Eligibility Criteria

This trial is for college students who are able to perform bodyweight double-leg squats. They must be willing to have their force production measured before and after using a foam roller on their quadriceps muscles. Specific eligibility criteria were not provided, so general health and ability to participate in physical activity may be assumed.

Inclusion Criteria

I am currently a university student.

Exclusion Criteria

I need help to stand up from the ground.
I had leg surgery within the last 10 years.
I have an injury on my leg.

Interventions

  • Foam Rolling
Trial Overview The study is testing how a standardized foam rolling session affects the force produced during double-leg squats. Participants will use Vald ForceDecks to measure changes in force production before and after foam rolling their quadriceps.
