What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests whether 3D surface scans can replace traditional CT scans for planning electron radiation therapy. Researchers aim to use 3D scans to avoid CT scan radiation, speed up the treatment process, and enable more personalized treatment devices. Individuals receiving electron therapy and willing to undergo 3D scans may be suitable for this study.

As a Phase 2 trial, this research measures the effectiveness of the 3D scanning method in an initial, smaller group, offering participants a chance to contribute to innovative treatment advancements.

Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that this 3D imaging technique is safe for treatment planning in electron radiation therapy?

Research has shown that three-dimensional (3D) imaging, like the technology studied in this trial, is generally safe. For instance, 3D ultrasound, which is similar, is as safe as regular scans when used correctly. This involves keeping usage time short and ensuring proper equipment operation.

3D imaging does not use ionizing radiation, unlike traditional CT scans, making it a safer choice for imaging. No major side effects or safety issues have been reported specifically linked to 3D imaging in medical settings.

Thus, in terms of safety, 3D imaging used in this manner appears well-tolerated and low risk.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about this trial because it explores a new way to plan radiation therapy using 3D surface scanning. Unlike traditional CT scans, which involve radiation exposure, 3D surface scanning is non-invasive and doesn't emit radiation, making it a safer alternative. This technique could lead to more precise and personalized treatment plans by capturing detailed surface anatomy. If successful, it might improve the accuracy of targeting tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

What evidence suggests that 3D surface imaging is effective for treatment planning in electron radiation therapy?

Research has shown that 3D surface scanning captures the shape of a patient's body as effectively as traditional CT scans. This method aids in creating custom devices with 3D printing. Unlike CT scans, 3D imaging does not expose patients to harmful radiation, offering a significant advantage. Studies also indicate that 3D imaging enhances diagnostic accuracy and accelerates treatment planning. In this trial, participants will undergo 3D surface scans, and researchers will review their medical records. These benefits suggest that 3D surface scanning could be a reliable option for planning electron radiation therapy.678910
