WELL-MPN App for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms
(WELL-MPN Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores whether a digital lifestyle app can assist people with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), a type of blood cancer, in improving their diet, exercise habits, and overall well-being. Participants will either use the WELL-MPN Digital App or receive written materials about healthy living with cancer. The trial aims to determine if the app better alleviates symptoms, improves mood, and boosts health management confidence compared to the written materials. Ideal participants are adults diagnosed with MPNs who can read and speak English. As an unphased trial, this study provides an opportunity to contribute to innovative research that could enhance the quality of life for those with MPNs.
What prior data suggests that the WELL-MPN app is safe for people with myeloproliferative neoplasms?
Research shows that digital apps like the WELL-MPN app, designed for people with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), are generally safe. Studies on similar apps have not identified any serious safety issues. These apps are well-tolerated because they focus on improving lifestyle habits, such as diet and exercise, rather than introducing new drugs or treatments. Participants typically find it easier to manage their symptoms and enhance their quality of life, with no major side effects reported. This suggests that using the WELL-MPN app is likely safe and beneficial for people with MPNs, based on past research with similar digital health tools.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the WELL-MPN Digital App because it offers a fresh approach to managing myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) by integrating digital health technology into patient care. Unlike traditional treatments that focus solely on medication or standard care practices, this app aims to enhance patient engagement and self-management through personalized health tracking and educational resources. By providing patients with real-time feedback and guidance on diet and physical activity, the app could empower individuals to play a more active role in their treatment, potentially improving their quality of life and treatment outcomes.
What evidence suggests that the WELL-MPN app is effective for improving lifestyle and well-being in people with myeloproliferative neoplasms?
Research shows that digital lifestyle apps can help people with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) manage symptoms and improve quality of life. A small study found that using a wellness app reduced symptoms for MPN patients over 12 weeks. In this trial, participants will either use the WELL-MPN Digital App alongside usual care or receive enhanced usual care with written literature about diet and physical activity guidelines. These apps track and monitor health, aiding in better symptom management. By encouraging healthier eating and more physical activity, these apps may also enhance emotional well-being and overall quality of life for people with MPNs. Overall, early findings suggest that these apps can positively impact managing MPN-related challenges.14678
