Resonant Voice Therapy for Vocal Fold Lesion
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Resonant Voice Therapy for individuals with voice issues caused by excessive pressure on their vocal cords. The therapy includes exercises that may help reduce this pressure, though these exercises have not been scientifically tested. Participants will engage in a four-week program, attending sessions once a week. The trial seeks individuals diagnosed with vocal cord lesions due to strain and referred for voice therapy. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that could enhance voice therapy techniques.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if you have medical conditions beyond seasonal allergies and laryngopharyngeal reflux, you may not be eligible to participate.
What prior data suggests that resonant voice therapy is safe for treating vocal fold lesions?
Research has shown that resonant voice therapy is usually easy for people to handle. It is a common treatment for voice problems, such as those that strain the vocal cords. A review of studies found that this therapy helps improve voice issues without causing major side effects. Although scientists are still exploring exactly why it works, the studies reviewed reported no serious problems. This suggests that resonant voice therapy is a safe choice for those wanting to improve their vocal health.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Resonant Voice Therapy is unique because it focuses specifically on reducing phonotraumatic vocal hyperfunction by encouraging optimal voice production techniques. Unlike many standard treatments that may involve surgical intervention or medication, Resonant Voice Therapy is a non-invasive approach that uses a structured program of vocal exercises. This method helps patients achieve a balanced voice production, reducing strain and promoting healing of vocal fold lesions. Researchers are excited about this therapy because it empowers patients to take an active role in their recovery, potentially leading to improved vocal health without the need for more invasive procedures.
What evidence suggests that resonant voice therapy is effective for vocal fold lesion?
Research has shown that resonant voice therapy, which participants in this trial will receive, can effectively improve voice quality. In one study, 84.7% of patients with voice issues had their voice return to normal after therapy. Another study found a significant drop in scores measuring voice problems, indicating improved voice function. This therapy reduces pressure on the vocal cords to prevent further damage. It generally helps position the voice box and throat in healthier ways, lowering the risk of injury. Overall, current evidence supports its effectiveness in treating voice disorders caused by overuse or strain.26789

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for individuals with a clinic diagnosis of mid-membranous vocal fold lesions, believed to be caused by phonotrauma. Participants must have been referred for voice therapy by a trained laryngologist.Inclusion Criteria
Timeline for a Trial Participant
Screening
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial
Baseline Assessment
Baseline assessments including VHI-10 questionnaire, videoendoscopic examination, CT scans, and pressure measurements
Treatment
Participants receive resonant voice therapy, consisting of weekly 60-minute sessions over four weeks
Follow-up
Participants are monitored for changes in VHI-10 scores, endoscopic exam results, and pressure measurements
What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?
Interventions
- Resonant Voice Therapy
Trial Overview
The study tests the effectiveness of resonant voice therapy in reducing contact pressure between vocal folds during speech, which may help prevent or treat injuries related to excessive vocal fold collision.
How Is the Trial Designed?

Treatment groups
Experimental Treatment
Resonant voice therapy is a standard of care procedure for treating phonotraumatic vocal hyperfunction. The full standardized voice therapy program will have a duration of four weeks, each week with one 60-minute therapy session.
