Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

The investigators' overall objective is to demonstrate the efficacy of the Bullying Classroom Check-Up (BCCU) on elementary aged students' aggressive and bullying behaviors, teacher practices, and student and teacher relationships. The investigators' principal hypothesis is that the BCCU will improve students' aggression and bullying behaviors and their perceptions of the school climate and relationships in the building as well as teacher practices.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether participants need to stop taking their current medications.

What data supports the effectiveness of the treatment Bullying Classroom Check-Up (BCCU) Program?

The Classroom Check-up (CCU), a similar program, has been shown to help teachers use better classroom management strategies, like giving more praise and fewer reprimands, which led to less disruptive behavior in classrooms. This suggests that the BCCU program could also be effective in improving classroom environments and reducing bullying.12345

How is the Bullying Classroom Check-Up treatment different from other bullying interventions?

The Bullying Classroom Check-Up (BCCU) treatment is unique because it focuses on coaching teachers to improve classroom management and climate, which can indirectly reduce bullying. Unlike other interventions that may target students directly, BCCU emphasizes empowering educators to create a supportive environment that discourages bullying behavior.678910

Findings from Research

The Classroom Check-up (CCU) model, combined with Visual Performance Feedback, significantly improved teachers' classroom management strategies, leading to more praise and less reprimanding.
These changes in teacher behavior resulted in a decrease in disruptive behavior among students, highlighting the effectiveness of classroom-level consultation in promoting positive behavior changes.

The CAPLE (Creating A Positive Learning Environment) intervention, implemented over two eight-week cycles in 2016 and 2017, effectively engaged clinical staff in developing their teaching skills while addressing student bullying in clinical settings.
A strategic four-part framework (approach, process, content, and person) was identified as crucial for enhancing bullying interventions, promoting participant engagement and fostering positive changes in values related to student learning.

A narrative review of 38 articles on student bullying interventions in clinical environments identified six key themes for effective practices, emphasizing the need to understand bullying catalysts and address staff needs rather than solely relying on policies.
Effective interventions should focus on promoting positive behavior rather than targeting negative behavior, and should be designed collaboratively by both interventionists and institutions to avoid ineffective practices.
