Biophilic Design for Enhanced Exercise Experience
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores whether exercising in a nature-inspired setting can enhance the benefits and enjoyment of workouts compared to a regular gym. Researchers aim to determine if elements like plants, simulated sunlight, and nature sounds can make exercise more effective and enjoyable. Participants will experience both environments and report on their exercise performance and mood. The trial seeks male college students aged 18 to 25 who exercise regularly. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to explore innovative exercise environments and contribute to research that could improve workout experiences for many.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.
What prior data suggests that this exercise environment is safe?
Research shows that spaces designed with natural elements like plants and nature sounds are generally well-received. Studies have found that these environments can help reduce stress and boost mood. This suggests that exercising in such settings is safe and might enhance enjoyment and performance. No reports of negative effects have emerged from being in these nature-inspired spaces, so participants can feel confident about their safety in this study.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about this trial because it explores how exercise environments can enhance the workout experience. Unlike traditional gym settings, the biophilic design incorporates nature elements like real and artificial plants, landscape wallpaper, simulated sunlight, and nature sounds. This unique approach aims to make exercising more enjoyable and potentially more effective by leveraging our innate connection to nature. By comparing these environments, researchers hope to discover if such design elements can boost motivation and improve overall wellness during exercise.
What evidence suggests that a biophilic exercise environment is effective for enhancing exercise performance and enjoyment?
Research has shown that incorporating natural elements like plants and sunlight into design, known as biophilic design, can enhance the enjoyment of exercise. In this trial, participants will experience either a biophilic exercise environment—featuring nature elements, real and artificial plants, landscape wallpaper, simulated sunlight, and nature sounds—or a traditional exercise environment, resembling a typical indoor gym. Studies have found that biophilic environments increase engagement and satisfaction during exercise. Participants often report feeling happier and less stressed, and they may even think more clearly while active. Although these studies focus on general spaces, the same principles can apply to exercise areas, suggesting potential benefits for both physical and mental health during workouts.15678
