What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to understand the role of mucus in chronic lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, and chronic cough. Researchers will use chest CT scans to compare mucus levels in healthy volunteers and those with these conditions. They seek patterns and markers in mucus that could guide doctors in selecting better treatments in the future. Individuals with moderate-to-severe asthma, COPD, or chronic cough for over a year may qualify to participate. As an unphased trial, this study offers participants the chance to contribute to groundbreaking research that could lead to improved treatments for chronic lung conditions.

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about this trial because it focuses on understanding airway mucus occlusions in conditions like asthma, COPD, and chronic cough. Unlike typical treatments that primarily aim to manage symptoms, this study seeks to uncover the underlying causes of mucus blockages in the airways. By investigating these mechanisms, scientists hope to pave the way for more targeted therapies that could improve breathing and quality of life for patients. This approach could lead to breakthroughs that go beyond current options, which mainly include bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory medications. Ultimately, the trial has the potential to revolutionize how we treat these respiratory conditions by addressing their root causes.
