Hydration Protocol for Aging
(DRIP Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to examine how hydration affects inflammation and overall body performance in adults aged 45-65. Participants will follow a Hydration-Dehydration-Rehydration Protocol (HDR) routine to assess its impact on inflammation markers and physical strength. Individuals who are generally healthy, have a BMI under 30, and weigh at least 110 pounds may be suitable candidates. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to contribute to foundational research on hydration's impact on health.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
Yes, you will need to stop taking medications that affect fluid retention, such as corticosteroids, NSAIDs, hormonal therapies, antihypertensives, psychiatric medications, vasodilators, diuretics, and RAAS inhibitors.
What prior data suggests that this hydration-dehydration-rehydration protocol is safe for adults aged 45-65?
Research shows that the Hydration-Dehydration-Rehydration (HDR) Protocol involves managing water intake over 12 days to observe its effects on the body. This includes periods of increased water consumption, reduced intake, and rehydration.
Monitoring health closely during this process ensures safety. Researchers will track kidney function and check blood salt levels to confirm the body handles changes in water intake effectively.
Although the mild dehydration in this study is less risky than severe dehydration, it still requires careful attention to prevent any issues. Other studies have safely used this method to explore the effects of dehydration and rehydration.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the Hydration-Dehydration-Rehydration (HDR) Protocol because it takes a unique approach to improving hydration in aging individuals. Unlike traditional hydration methods that focus solely on fluid intake, the HDR Protocol involves a cycle of hydration, dehydration, and rehydration over a 12-day period, potentially offering insights into optimal fluid management for older adults. This method aims to enhance the body's ability to manage and utilize fluids effectively, which could lead to better hydration strategies and improved overall health for the aging population.
What evidence suggests that this hydration protocol is effective for improving physiological performance in adults aged 45-65?
Research shows that staying hydrated is crucial for the body, especially with age. Studies have found that adequate water intake supports brain function. Insufficient hydration can lead to increased inflammation and sleep disturbances. Drinking enough fluids can alleviate these issues and improve overall well-being. In this trial, participants will follow the Hydration-Dehydration-Rehydration Protocol to examine how hydration changes affect inflammation, cellular energy, and physical performance. Staying hydrated is a simple yet vital way to maintain health as we age.12678
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for apparently healthy adults aged 45-65 with a BMI less than 30 kg/m2 and body weight of at least 110 lbs. It's designed to explore how hydration affects inflammation and bodily functions.Inclusion Criteria
