Study Summary

This trial looks at whether looking at a person's lungs before surgery can predict how well their lungs will work after surgery.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for men and women aged 18 to 100 with lung cancer, who are being evaluated for lung surgery. They must have a life expectancy over 3 months, agree to follow the study rules, and be available throughout the study. It's not for patients only having a small part of their lung removed (wedge resection).Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The LIME trial is testing how well a new type of lung imaging called '4DCT-ventilation' can predict lung function after surgery. This could help doctors plan surgeries better by understanding how lungs will work post-operation.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves imaging rather than medication or invasive procedures, side effects are minimal but may include discomfort during the scan or reactions related to contrast agents if used.

The patient will undergo 4DCT imaging. The 4DCT imaging data along with image processing techniques will be used to generate a 4DCT-ventilation map. All surgical decisions will be based on the current standard of care imaging (VQ scans) and not on the 4DCT imaging results.

For what type of individuals is this clinical trial appropriate?

"This trial seeks 65 participants afflicted with lung cancer, aged 18 to 100 years old. To be eligible for the study, individuals must demonstrate a willingness to comply with all necessary protocol and have an estimated life expectancy of at least 3 months. Additionally, cardiothoracic surgeons may require applicants to complete a range of pulmonary function tests before they can proceed in the program."
