This trial is evaluating whether Text Messaging will improve 1 primary outcome in patients with Physical Conditioning. Measurement will happen over the course of 6 months post randomization.
This trial requires 290 total participants across 4 different treatment groups
This trial involves 4 different treatments. Text Messaging is the primary treatment being studied. Participants will be divided into 3 treatment groups. There is no placebo group. The treatments being tested are not being studied for commercial purposes.
"There are an increasing number of patients presenting for physical rehabilitation programmes across the country and for a greater percentage of elderly patients across Australia. The major types of treatment prescribed for physical rehabilitation are fitness and mobility exercises, counselling, and manual therapy. Recent findings provides useful baseline data for future investigations which may shed the light on new findings related to patient satisfaction with rehabilitation." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"Physical conditioning is an integral and indispensable component that enhances the overall health and quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS. For people living with HIV/AIDS, physical conditioning plays an important role in maintaining fitness and is important for overall survival." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The present study has demonstrated that high-intensity aerobic exercise can substantially improve fitness and increase heart function, while endurance exercise does not improve heart function nor fitness compared with a passive training regimen. The current data also indicate that exercise can be safely implemented to treat symptoms of schizophrenia." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The American Physical Therapy Association estimated that 6.5 million Americans participated in PA in a year. Although the total number of participants could be far higher, PA is the most widely practiced form of exercise, yet few individuals participate in it regularly. The proportion of adults who report getting regular exercise is about one quarter, yet the proportion of Americans who do not engage in physical activity was estimated to be over 80% by the National Center for Health Statistics. The reasons for this lack of engagement are poorly understood and deserve more attention from public health and healthcare providers." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"Signs of physical conditioning last up to 2-3 weeks, manifest and can be self-regulated. Some of these signs include: increased arm strength, increased endurance, increased flexibility, decreased body fat, muscle hypertrophy and muscle gains." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"If a person wants to develop physical conditioning, the training of muscles is not possible without a muscular hypertrophy, which is induced by changes in the electrical activity in skeletal muscles. The hypertrophy of muscles is generated through various mechanisms including the increment in concentration of Ca and increase in tension. The muscle hypertrophy can be induced through physical exercise or physical training and is induced by the increase in the speed of contractile activity of the muscles." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"This is the first study to comprehensively compare texting and face-to-face counseling. As the counseling in the two sessions was not associated with any different outcome than the counseling by the nurse or no contact, counseling should be a reasonable option for primary care clinicians." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The combination of a text messaging intervention with more conventional interventions does not appear to be more successful than a text messaging intervention alone in the treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD symptoms. We propose that a text messaging intervention may constitute an adjunct to conventional treatments and that further research is warranted to examine the effect of text messaging as an additional treatment option for children and adolescents with ADHD and related disabilities." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The use of text messaging as a preventive and therapeutic strategy in the clinic are feasible, and well accepted by patients. Text messaging is a simple non-invasive strategy, which has the potential to improve the clinical management of conditions such as asthma and epilepsy. Given its high effectiveness and low cost, text messaging could become a standard adjunct to clinical practice, a tool in the prevention and management of chronic diseases." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"Texting for any prolonged period of time is a safe practice with few side effects and we recommend its use as a tool to improve physical well-being." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"The text messaging intervention resulted in sustained improvements in physical activity without increasing the risk of non-compliance. In addition, text messaging has been shown to modify perceptions of physical activity in students." - Anonymous Online Contributor
"Text-messaging had not been previously studied in a population of participants who are receiving physical conditioning of an exercise or rehabilitation program. In a recent study, findings show that text-messaging is a valuable resource for improving quality of life for those with disabilities or with physical conditioning." - Anonymous Online Contributor
