MoTrMyo Trial Summary
This trial will study how well different types of exercise can change the way our cells handle fat and sugar, which could lead to better health and fitness.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 years old with a BMI between 19 and 35 kg/m2. It includes both highly active individuals who exercise regularly (either endurance or resistance training) and sedentary participants who do minimal structured exercise. Participants must be willing to provide informed consent, undergo an extra muscle biopsy, speak English well enough to understand instructions, and not use performance-enhancing drugs in the last six months.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study investigates how different types of exercise (resistance or aerobic) can cause long-term changes in skeletal muscle cells that may improve metabolic health through epigenetic regulation. It involves collecting additional muscle biopsies from participants which will contribute to the MoTrPAC repository for future research.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
There are no direct side effects mentioned as this is an observational study involving physical activity interventions rather than drug treatments. However, typical risks associated with taking a muscle biopsy include pain at the biopsy site, bruising, infection risk at the needle insertion point.
