The purpose of the research is to assess the impact of a natural language processing + artificial intelligence (NLP+AI)-based risk communication feedback system to improve quality of risk communication of key tradeoffs during prostate cancer consultations among physicians and to improve patient decision making. In this cluster randomized trial, an evaluable 220 patients with newly diagnosed clinically localized prostate cancer will be cluster randomized within an evaluable 22 physicians to: 1. a control arm, in which patients will receive standard of care treatment consultations along with AUA-endorsed educational materials on treatment risks and benefits (for patients) and on SDM (for physicians) or 2. an experimental arm, in which patients and participating physicians will receive NLP+AI-based feedback on what was said about key tradeoffs within approximately 72 hours of the consultation to assist with decision making. Physicians will additionally be provided with grading of their risk communication for each visit based on an a priori defined framework for quality of risk communication and recommendations for improvement. In both study arms, there will be an audio-recorded follow-up phone or video call between the physician and patient to allow for further discussion of risk and clarifying any areas of ambiguity, which will be qualitatively analyzed to see if areas of poor communication were rectified. After the follow-up phone call, patients and participating physicians will be asked to complete a very brief survey about their experience. The study plans to test whether receiving NLP+AI-based feedback improves decisional conflict, shared decision making, and appropriateness of treatment choice over the standard of care in patients undergoing treatment consultations for prostate cancer. Study staff will also test whether providing feedback and grading of risk communication to physicians affects quality of physician risk communication, since providing feedback will promote more accountability for the quality of information provided to patients. The study will also analyze data from the control arm of the randomized controlled trial to understand variation in risk communication of key tradeoffs in relevant subgroups of tumor risk (low-, intermediate-, and high-risk), provider specialty (Urology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology), and patient sociodemographics.

Effective training requires repeated opportunities for skills practice with performance-based feedback, which is challenging to provide at scale. This research study focuses on developing an AI-based, coding and feedback tool ("LyssnCrisis") for implementation in a nationally utilized crisis call center, training counselors (call-takers) in suicide risk assessment skills, and evaluating LyssnCrisis to improve services and client outcomes. This research study's goal is to maximize the human capacity of call-takers to help assess their callers for risk of suicidality, and thus, a core aspect of the current research is developing a novel training process that supports human call-taker capacities.

In the United States, colorectal cancer ranks second to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death and is the third most commonly occurring cancer in both men and women. Colorectal cancer in most cases develops slowly over a period of years, starting with the growth of precancerous polyps on the colon or rectum wall. The slow development of colorectal cancer makes it possible to detect and prevent it entirely by the removal of the precancerous polyps with colonoscopy. To date, there is no screening test, other than colonoscopy, able to detect the precancerous polyps. Gixam is a camera that takes multiple pictures of your tongue and uses artificial intelligence software to predict the presence of precancerous polyps within your colon or rectum that may eventually become cancerous. The device creates the prediction by comparing the images taken of your tongue with many other images of tongues from healthy patients and patients with a history of precancerous polyps. Patients who have been predicted by Gixam to have precancerous polyps may be more likely to complete colonoscopy at the interval recommended by their physician, potentially reducing the likelihood of developing colorectal cancer. The purpose of this research study is to test the accuracy of the Gixam device in persons that have received a negative outcome on a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). This study will compare this prediction to the actual findings of your scheduled standard care colonoscopy and allow researchers to evaluate and improve the Gixam system.

The study aims to demonstrate the potential for at-home monitoring using Stream™ Platform, through simulated-use testing. Lay users, defined as subjects or nonprofessional caregivers, will be asked to operate Stream™ Platform. Safety, efficacy, and usability data will be collected to ensure that users are able to comply with prescribed device use. Additionally, clinical testing will be conducted to identify correlations between measurements from Stream™ Platform and standard laboratory, radiological, and clinical assessments used for leak detection as part of the current standard of care (SOC) that may be skipped if the subject is discharged early.

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the use of a generative artificial intelligence large language model chatbot in improving decision making factors in patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does the use of an artificial intelligence chatbot have an effect on decisional conflict and anxiety related to decision making? This clinical trial is testing whether plain language summaries made by artificial intelligence help people understand their eye doctor's notes better. Adults receiving eye care at the Jules Stein Eye Institute will get either the usual medical notes or a note with the addition of an AI-generated summary that explains the information in simple, everyday words. Participants will then answer a short survey and receive a follow-up call to share how clear the information was, how well they understood their diagnosis and treatment, and whether they feel more confident about their care. The goal is to find out if these plain language summaries can make it easier for people to understand their eye care and improve communication between patients and health care providers.

How much do Artificial Intelligence clinical trials pay?

Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.

How do Artificial Intelligence clinical trials work?

After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across Artificial Intelligence trials 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?

Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.

What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?

The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.

Do I need to be insured to participate in a Artificial Intelligence medical study?

Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.
